104 World Cup matches — and not a single one kicks off during Thai prime time.

The most common slot is 2 AM. The opening match, every semi-final, the Final — all of them land there (Thairath).

So this tournament isn’t won by which team you support. It’s won by one thing: knowing where to watch before the alarm goes off. Set it for 2 AM, open the wrong app, and you miss the whole match.

The short version (20 seconds)

  • Free: Mono29 (Channel 29) — 40+ matches, including the opening game and the Final
  • All 104 matches: the Monomax app, Sports Premium — 5,999 THB/year or 599 THB/month
  • Devices: no box required — the app runs on phones, Smart TVs and boxes you already own
  • Kickoffs: all deep-night to morning (23:00–11:00 ICT); the big ones at 2 AM

Who holds the rights — and why Thailand nearly missed out

Here’s what most people don’t realise: two days before kickoff, Thailand was the only ASEAN nation still without broadcast rights.

The deal closed on 10 June and was announced on 11 June 2026 — the same day as the opening ceremony. JAS (Jasmine International) and MONO took exclusive Thai rights to all 104 matches, a deal worth around $70 million (~2.3 billion THB) covering the 2026 and 2030 men’s World Cups plus the 2027 Women’s World Cup (Nation Thailand).

The government tried first. On 12 May 2026 the Cabinet approved 1.3 billion THB for the NBTC to bid, but FIFA’s floor price (about 1.7 billion THB with tax) was higher than the budget, the talks stalled, and the rights fell to the private sector (Pattaya Mail).

One thing to understand: the World Cup was removed from Thailand’s “Must-Have” list by the NBTC in the Royal Gazette on 16 May 2025 (Nation Thailand). JAS had every legal right to hide all 104 matches behind a paywall. The 40+ free matches are a commercial choice, not an obligation.

How many matches are free — and which ones

The main free channel is Mono29 (MONOMAX SPORTS, Channel 29). JAS confirmed at least one match a day is free, totalling over 40 matches including the opening game and the Final.

17 group-stage fixtures are confirmed by name, spread across 12–28 June 2026 — the opener Mexico vs South Africa, USA vs Paraguay, Brazil vs Morocco, plus Germany, Spain, Argentina, Portugal and England (Sanook). The free knockout fixtures are still being announced match by match.

A second outlet, Amarin TV, was reported to carry some free coverage too, though its confirmed list wasn’t verified as of writing. Treat Mono29 as the safe default — at least one free match per day is guaranteed.

Watch all 104 matches — the package

If you want everything, including the knockouts, there’s one route: the Monomax app, Sports Premium tier.

Prices as of 13 June 2026 (Thairath). Note one wrinkle: a 6,490 THB/year figure also appeared in the app before the press conference, so check monomax.me/packages before you pay.

Watch out for the Sports Standard question: reports conflict on whether Standard subscribers get the World Cup or must be on Sports Premium. The safe move is to log into monomax.me and check your own tier against the World Cup listing. Sports Premium streams on 2 devices at once and offers 0% instalments over 10 months.

Do you need a box?

No. The Monomax app runs directly on phones, tablets, web and Smart TVs. Already own a box? Just install the app.

Existing subscribers, sharing and 4K

Three things fans ask most:

  • Do current subscribers pay extra? Reports conflict — one side says existing subscribers pay nothing more, another says access is Sports Premium only. Safest: log into monomax.me and compare your tier against the World Cup listing.
  • Can you share with friends? Sports Premium streams on 2 devices at once with up to 5 saved logins; Standard is one device. Watching at a friend’s place on different Wi-Fi is explicitly allowed.
  • How sharp is the picture? During the tournament the app tops out at 1080p; 4K on TV arrives 1 August 2026 (after the group stage and some knockouts). Free Mono29 is SD.

VPN — the facts

This section is legal and risk information only — no circumvention methods.

Using a VPN in Thailand for privacy is not illegal; the Computer Crime Act doesn’t criminalise VPN use itself. But two conditions matter: accessing content that’s already banned through a VPN is still illegal (the access is the offence, not the VPN), and using a VPN to spoof your region for an overseas feed breaks the platform’s terms and the rights licensing, which can get your account suspended. (This reflects analysis of the Computer Crime Act, not a court ruling or NBTC directive.)

Kickoff times in Thai time — pick your battles

Every match falls between 23:00 and 11:00 ICT, because the hosts span three American time zones (Nation Thailand). Official kickoff times are on the FIFA schedule.

Thai timeCharacterExamples
23:00–00:00Late startSome Spain, Germany, Portugal games

03:00–04:00Small hoursMany knockout games
08:00–11:00Morning, watchable before work~20–25 group-stage games

Almost every decisive late-stage match sits in the midnight-to-4 AM zone. Decide in advance which games are worth losing sleep over, and plan the night around them.

Which option fits you

Don’t overpay. Match the plan to how you watch:

  • Just the big games, no spend → Mono29 is enough — opener, Final and plenty of marquee teams.
  • A true fan who wants all 104, knockouts included → Sports Premium is the best value (about 500 THB/month on the annual plan).
  • Want to try before committing → Premium monthly at 599 THB, paid only for the months with football.
  • On a budget → 0% instalments over 10 months, or mix free Mono29 games with the matches you truly want.

A bonus most people miss: Sports Premium isn’t only the World Cup — it bundles the new Premier League season too. If you already follow English football, the value-per-baht drops further.

Where to start

Plan before the alarm rings:

  1. Find your team in the full match schedule and note the Thai kickoff times.
  2. If a match is on the 40+ free list, just open Mono29 — no payment needed.
  3. To watch everything including knockouts, subscribe to Monomax Sports Premium (check the current price at monomax.me first).
  4. Track the group standings through the tournament so you know which matches are must-win.

Plan first, cheer later — pick the right channel, lock in the Thai kickoff times, and the match you’ve waited all year for won’t slip away because you opened the wrong app at 2 AM.
